What was your first car?

• 1962 Peugeot 403 that I bought when it was nearly 20 years old!

Any significant memories w/that car?

• First time getting a car stuck in sand. First time taking a girl on a camping trip, First time … well you get the idea. Also, I could drop the clutch and leave anybody at a light for at least the first 50-100 yards!

What’s parked in your driveway now?

• 2006 Ford Escape that really wishes it were a hybrid … maybe next time. My wife calls it my “big car.” I call it my mini-SUV. Either way there’s a good amount of room for my “too-tall-for-economy-class” frame.

Does your car reflect your personality?

• It’s practical.

Favorite vehicle(s)?

• The 1968 VW CamperVan I owned 1981-1983 (rear-mounted engine meant no getting stuck in the sand on surfing and camping trips). The 1977 Fiat I owned in 1985 and put nearly 15,000 miles on during four months of travel in Europe and Britain. The 1962 Peugeot. Hey it was “Colombo’s” car and those memories …

Favorite vehicle…if money were no object?

• The all-new VW camping wagon. Once a VW van owner, always a VW van owner at heart!

Vanity Plates?

• No. But if I had them it would say: “UPSIDDWN” I’m from New Zealand and so now I’m on the “bottom” of the planet! :-)

Must have car gadget?

• GPS - perfect for after those random, “I just want to drive somewhere with no idea where I’m going” moments, so I can find my way home again!

Favorite driving tunes?

• Linkin Park, Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, Leonard Cohen and sometimes the iPod on “Random”

Favorite Hollywood movie car?

• Got to be “Little Miss Sunshine’s” VW van … are we seeing a trend yet?
