500hp & 500kbps…’nuff said.

My 1st car was a 1981 Pontiac Gran Prix, V6. Loved that car! …until a little nice old lady wasn’t paying attention and drove right into me, totaling the car. My 2nd car was a 1977 black Trans Am…the perfect car for a 16 year old.

  • Any significant memories w/that car?Sure, 1st prom dates & homecoming dates with the Gran Prix… and Friday night football cruising with the Trans Am, among other mischief that a car with 400 cubic inches of power that beckons to be released.
  • What’s parked in your driveway now? I have two BMW’s, an M5 and an X5. The M5 was a dream that took me 3 years to realize. Besides the V10 engine & 500HP on tap, I love how the car looks like a common sedan until you come up close to it, see the 14” disc brakes and scratch your head wondering why a 4 door car needs that kind of stopping power?
  • Does your car reflect your personality? If so, how? It’s an extension of my values in speed, quality, walk softly but carry a big block (that’s a silly engine size reference). I also love the efficiency as to how the M5 produced 100 HP per litre of displacement vs. the 1977 Trans Am that only produced 41 HP per litre. They’ve come a long way in creating more power from less fuel…and I can also save gas by running in regular 400 HP mode or push one button to release another 100 HP.
  • Favorite vehicle(s)? The M5 is still my favorite.
  • Favorite vehicle…if money were no object? Bugatti Veyron for sure and a 2009 Tesla Motors electric car are in my future. For muscle cars, I’m still searching for a http://1973TransAm.com/ White with blue firebird on the hood, 455 SD engine, 4 speed with black interior. Germany-based G-Power has a 730HP version of the BMW M5 that is also of interest as soon as they have a Chicago-based mechanical support center.
  • Must have car gadget? One special feature in both vehicles I have are Verizon EVDO express cards installed in a Cradlepoint EVDO WiFi router mounted permanently in the trunk so that I can get 500 Kbps at 70MPH or 1.0 to 1.7 Mbps when stopped of Internet connectivity on my iPhone.
  • Favorite driving tunes? Mad Money from Jim Cramer on CNBC, Fox News, Sirius Dance channel The Beat, 70s.
  • Favorite Hollywood movie car? I’ve got a few fav’s:
    • The Delorean from Back To The Future
    • The M5 from the BMW short film with Madonna & Clive Owen’s.
    • That car in the movie Blade Runner that could take high speed sharp 90 degree turns
    • KITT, The Black Trans Am from Knight Rider
    • The General Lee Charger from Dukes of Hazard
    • The Batmobile from The Dark Knight
    • And the car garage carousel from Fast & The Furious for storing the collection.

Cheers,
Chris Knight
