Tempted To Say No...

  • What was your first car?

A red 1970 Beetle with a 1969 engine. It sounds cool, but it wasn’t. It was a semi-automatic. I still don’t know what that means, but I do know I never learned to stop at an intersection without stalling

  • Any significant memories w/that car?

I have two, but I’d qualify them both as nightmares more than “memories.” The first is the cute way passengers had to avoid stepping on the floor in the back, or else they’d fall right thru. The second is the way the car had no heat except for a specific spot over my right foot. In the winter, I’d be scraping ice off of the inside windshield while the heater coil burned a hole in the shoe leather over my right baby toe.

  • What’s parked in your driveway now?

A 2002 tan Volvo Cross Country wagon with a “Woof” sticker on the back. Or maybe it’s a 2003. Not sure.

  • Does your car reflect your personality?

I’m tempted to say no… because who wants to be compared to a station wagon? But sadly, it probably does: I’m classic, dependable, clean, and I get the job done. Also, I have a lot of room for inner baggage.

  • Favorite vehicle(s)?

I hate to drive. So I don’t really undrstand the question.

  • Favorite vehicle…if money were no object?

If I could commandeer anything I wanted, my other vehicle would be Seven League Boots.

  • Vanity Plates?

If so - what’s on them? None. But I would love one that stated, simply: WHAT.

  • Must have car gadget?

I am in love with my TomTom. It’s almost unhealthy, as you can see here

  • Favorite driving tunes?

Show tunes sung at the top of my lungs with the windows rolled down, but only when I pick up my embarrassed kids at school. Otherwise, NPR. And silence. I really like quiet.

  • Favorite Hollywood movie car?

Herbie.
