Old, Quirky, Plenty of Character…

Porsche 911 Turbo CabrioletImage by jburns00 via Flickr

Introducing Jon Gilliat; The chucklehead behind Enthusiast Apparel & sonsofmotorsport.com. Way too into cars

What was your first car?

  • A 1987 BMW 325. It was a 4 door with a 5spd manual, and it was a really fun drive.

Any significant memories w/that car?

  • It was the first car I painted. It was the first car I took to the track (Putnam Park). I just recently found the current owner, and am thinking about maybe buying it back.

What’s parked in your driveway now?

  • A 1971 BMW 2002 and a 1987 BMW 535. You just missed it, I had a lovely 1982 Porsche 911SC that I recently sold.

Does your car reflect your personality?

  • Man I hope not! Old, quirky, plenty of character, and real fun… when they’re running!

Favorite vehicle(s)?

  • I’m a big fan of Porsche 911’s. I’ve got 3 under my belt. The E30 M3 is also one of my all-time favorites. And oddly enough, I really want another Fiat 124 Spider (I would never recommend it, but it was fantastic!)

Favorite vehicle…if money were no object?

  • I think the new GT3 is right up my alley. Although, I have been wanting one of those hard-to-find Citroen DS wagons.

Vanity Plates?

  • I may have had “M3NTAL” on the back of my M3.

Must have car gadget?

  • I like my cars to be a simpler experience. All I need on a nice day is my arm out the window and a working radio.

Favorite driving tunes?

  • Depends on the mood. Can be just about any classical music, or something more raucous like NIN or Korn.

Favorite Hollywood movie car?

  • I’m not an American car guy, but funnily enough, Eleanor from Gone In 60 Seconds. Well… before there were replicas everywhere.
