Introducing absentcanadian; A Canadian living in North Carolina.

What was your first car?

  • 1961 Ford Falcon sedan in puke-green.

Any significant memories w/that car?

  • Other than breaking down on the side of the road numerous times and the worn-out boing-boing pogo-stick-spring bench seats - no, not really.

What’s parked in your driveway now?

  • 2004 Mercedes Benz C230K, a 2005 Ducati Monster S2R and a 1986 Honda Spree scooter.

Does your car reflect your personality?

  • Probably. The C-class coupes are a little quirky looking, and aren’t all that common. But they’re steadfast and reliable - traits I’d like to have associated with me!

Favorite vehicle(s)?

  • Vehicles that have moved me emotionally are the Ford Model T, the 1950 Ford Custom Coupe, the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, any Mercedes Heckflosse, the Citroen DS21, the Volkswagen Scirocco, the 308/328 Ferraris, the Volkswagen Scirocco (first and second generations), and the Bentley R Turbo.

Favorite vehicle…if money were no object?

  • Late 1980’s Ferrari Testarossa.

Vanity Plates?

  • My car has a North Carolina Wildlife Commission plate. The Ducati has a simple plate: “DUC”.

Must have car gadget?

  • I hate add-on gadgets in cars, and I keep all of my vehicles junk-free. That said, I keep a portable GPS in the center console that comes in handy more often than I’d like to admit!

Favorite driving tunes?

  • Oh, it totally depends on my mood. My favorite time to drive is late at night when the stars are shining and the sunroof is wide open, and the best music for that would be Oscar Peterson’s “Nighttrain” jazz CD.

Favorite Hollywood movie car?

  • The Knight Industries Two Thousand!
