Plywood Window Replacement…

Introducing Ernest Stolte; Certified Expert Sales Consultant, Fleet Manager, Truck Manager.Munsters Dragula

What was your first car?

  • 1969 Pontiac Custom S.

Any significant memories w/that car?

  • The smiling Salesman handed me the keys and said, “Start your dream car:”
I cranked and cranked, but the Green Pontiac Lemans Custom S battery was dead, so the next best thing…a jump-start! A new battery proved successful performance and the purchase made with cash borrowed from my Dad.

Next day, styling with the times, a new 8-track player from Pep Boy’s was installed. One year later, while driving to work, I noticed the 8 track missing with no sign of a break in. Then, I installed the car radio to the remaining two speakers, which were left behind.

Two years after my treasured purchase, a thief broke out the right rear window while I was visiting a friend in another city, ransacking the car, and tearing out the remaining stereo speakers.

Driving around town for one month with a temporary plywood window replacement, the transmission burned out, costing 1,200 dollars to fix.

I drove my cherished Custom S for an additional two months before I decided to sell it to a friend, recouping my 1,200 loss.

I listened to my friend for one whole week, brag, about how he got the car at a steal of a price, and how I could’ve asked for more. Well, one day at a big party scene, less than two weeks from the date of my friend’s prized purchase, his Pontiac got stolen.

The very next day, the Pasadena Police found “our prized possession, crashed into a tree, abandoned, and you guessed it, totaled!

The moral of this story…the next time you test drive a car that has a dead battery, listen to the omen, “don’t buy it! Spare yourself the grief and buy one that starts off immediately. Don’t ask for trouble. Thanks for my reminiscing. Now, I’m that Salesman that sells cars.
